Goal of the game and gameplay overview
You are a cute little illegal candy smuggler. Your kids would kill for some of those!
The goal of the game is to be the one with the highest priced candy among those who haven`t been arrested. Five different candies exist on the game and each player will be dealt their candy secretly. Each player rolls a die in their turn, moving each candy’s price up or down according to the die result, trying to get their candy at a good price point and at the same time not giving up what’s theirs. After a candy reaches the highest price point this phase ends and each player gets a chance to accuse other players for what they smuggle. If you accuse someone correctly, they are arrested and thus out of the game but you have to be careful because if you accuse wrongly someone you will be the one who is eliminated!
This game is extremely easy and fast. We play it in around 3 minutes but laugh so much! I suggest to play it with the same group consecutive times and you will notice the change in each player’s play behavior. The first phase of the game can be “thinky” as you watch carefully everyone’s moves and try to figure out which candy is theirs and how would they play, trying to overthink them. After a player triggers the end of the game this is when things get really interesting and intense. As not all candies are active in the game you will never be sure for a certain one and you will have to decide whether you shall take the risk and try to arrest someone or leave the other players do the dirty work for you. I would recommend the IELLO edition which has great art and components. My high rating is because you get this much fun, laughs and intensity in just a few minutes in a game that anyone can play.
The right mood to play the game
As I mentioned, this is a very short filler game, to spice up your gaming night between meatier games. It can be an ice breaker and overall it does a great job for its type. Another great Japanese design.
