Category: Age: 6+ 15 - Min 2 - 4 Players 2017

TOPITO is one of the latest games by “Korea Boardgames”, known for light games especially in the dexterity genre with many being focused towards kids.
The Topito Circus is back in town with a breathtaking live show!

Topito is a game for 2-4 players in which players stack character blocks on top of each other, in order to fulfill certain conditions. The contents of the game are high quality and include 3 podium tiles (green, yellow and red), 9 thick wooden character blocks and 48 linen cards that depict various fulfillment conditions. The goal of the game is to be the first to score 7 cards in total.

In order to set up the game, you place the 3 podium tiles in the center of the table with some distance between them. The 9-character blocks are placed around the podiums so all players can reach them and lastly every player gets 4 cards. On your turn, you must either choose 1-character block that’s not in play and put it on top of any existing stack of blocks or move 1 block (or block stack) already in play and put it on top of any other existing block stack or empty podium.

When stacking the blocks there are certain rules that you must follow:
1. When moving several blocks, you can only hold one block (except for kids).
2. Blocks can only be stacked in an upright position. Not upside down nor on their side.
3. You cannot reverse the last move made.
If you drop or knockdown blocks, your turn ends immediately. You return those blocks and any blocks still on your hand on the reserve. You also discard one of your played cards from in front of you.
In order for you to play your cards, you must first fulfill certain conditions. When a condition is fulfilled whether it’s your turn or not, you can play that card and draw a new one from the deck. If multiple cards/conditions are fulfilled at the same time, all cards are scored in front of you, drawing back to 4 cards. There 4 types of cards that show various conditions.

These conditions are:
1. 3 different characters and a colored podium. The order does not matter and other characters can be stacked in between.
2. The 2 characters must be stacked exactly on top of each other in the correct order.
3. 3 characters that must be stacked in the indicated order but other characters in-between does not matter.
4. A specific character that must be placed in a stack on the indicated level/layer with at least 1 other character on top. For example, 3rd, 4th etc.

Personal Thoughts

Topito is a simple, fast and fun game for you to play with your friends or with your family and especially young children. The blocks are very thick and easy to stack upon each other and the quality is top notch. The game itself propels you to take stacks of blocks that are way more difficult to balance in order to play your cards quickly and win the game.
It is very funny when you see someone taking 3,4 or more blocks trying to get them on top of other blocks and ultimately dropping them all down. There are also times that opponents can aid you by doing a move that you would have done in your turn without knowing it. That is the random factor of the game but it is so quick and light that it does not matter much. Even if you lose a game the fun is still there.

Who is this game for?

So, Topito succeeds to deliver a pretty and well-made dexterity game that is very accessible not only to children but also to adults. This will be challenging for young individuals for sure and sometimes for their parents as it can be harder than it seems to balance the pieces. You can add it to your game night as a filler between heavier games, to relax and train your balance.
The simplicity of the rules and the production of the game is surely towards kids and that’s why I’ll give this, two ratings, one for adults and one for kids. Since children will make more fun out of it that rating will be a little higher, but don`t let this make you think that this is not a fun game to play for everyone!
