Do you smell that? It smells off rotting corpses, vile creatures, and death… and victory!
Rise of the Necromancers is an new deck building and area control game from Sore Loser Games for two to five players. Players take on the role of aspiring necromancer studying the dark arts and building an army in a bid to become the Necromancer King.
Players pick their necromancer character at random and start their game piece in the Valley of Souls on the map. From there, players can move across the map into different territories where they can research spells, craft artifacts, search dungeons, or take control of cities. Along the way you can pick up skills and items that will make you stronger, and even run into potential apprentices and minions to build an army, which will become necessary to defend your land, as well as take control of others from rival players. For each piece of land you control, a dominion counter is placed on the board. The first to 13 counters becomes the Necromancer King and wins the game!
A neat element of the game is the ability to build up your character by selecting a specialty from one of the four Necromancer Academies: Decay, Mist, Blood, Bone. Become an expert in one, or follow them all, it’s all a part of the strategy, and a factor that will add lots of replayability. It’s a game that makes it fun to be evil!
