All aboard fellow gamers,

Fresh off of a successful Kickstarter campaign just last month, Game Salute will be releasing the latest edition of Alien Frontiers this December, with backers receiving their copy late summer/early fall. A little background, Alien Frontiers was the game that put Kickstarter on the map for would-be board game designers. Along with the new edition, Game Salute will rerelease a redesigned expansion of Factions, to be played with the base game. To preorder and get a better understanding of all the changes in the new versions, check out the Kickstarter page.

In September, Stonemaier Games will bring us a new entry in the legacy board game genre with Charterstone, a worker placement city-building game that takes place in the fictional medieval kingdom of Greengully. Stonemaier is taking several unorthodox approaches to this release; first, unlike typical legacy game, once the game comes to its natural end, you can start again, offering significant replayability. Second, there will be no rulebook, you just start playing the game and you will learn the rules as you play. Finally, Stonemaier will not have a Kickstarter or pre-orders; simply, they will announce it in their newsletter when it is available for purchase.

Keep your eyes peeled for a reprint of the classic Reiner Knizia game Amun-Re, originally released in 2003. Tasty Minstrel Games will be releasing the reprint this spring, offering updated art and fixes to the rules and board.

Unearth is a new dice-placement game designed by Jason Harner and Matthew Ransom, and published by Boss Monster publisher Brotherwise Games. In it, you are claiming ruins that once belonged to great cities to build them up again, using a variety of different sided dice. Look for this one in stores late summer.

Steve Jackson Games will bring us an adorable yet slightly dark card game called Ghosts Love Candy, where players compete with a team of ghosts to possess kids on Halloween and eat all their candy. The player with the most candy points after eight rounds wins, though players have to be careful as their ghosts can get sick from eating too much, affecting their chances of winning. Find this one in stores this summer.

Renegade Game Studios has teamed up with designer Keith Baker and comic illustrator Bryan Lee O’Malley to adapt O’Malley’s cult comic series Scott Pilgrim into a game. Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Card Game will be a deck builder that challenges players to grow up and prepare for your finest hour! A unique feature of the game is double-sided cards, giving the player more options but also more challenges. The game is expected to release this summer.

Attention T.I.M.E. Agents: Your next expansion is expected in stores this spring! A new expansion for T.I.M.E. Stores called Lumen Fidei has players travelling to Medieval Spain, with tasks forcing you to break some rules set in the original base game and previous expansions.

Haven’t had enough of the popular party game Codenames yet? Good, because there is more coming off the success of the original base came and companion releases of Pictures and Deep Undercover, you can expect new versions of Codenames with Marvel and Disney IPs, as well as the recently teased Duets, which appears to be a two player version. Is there such thing as too much Codenames?

Plaid Hat Games has announced Crossfire, a social deduction game set in the world of Specter Ops, taking players back into the dystopian struggle between Raxxon and A.R.K., as members of the A.R.K. team are attempting to assassinate a Raxxon VIP while members of the Raxxon team work diligently to protect their VIP. No word yet on a release date.

Fans of the Reiner Knizia auction game Modern Art, a game that is terribly hard to find now, will be happy to know the game is getting a long overdue reprint courtesy of CMON Limited. It’s a simple game that developed a cult following, where players are putting up their painting for purchase, selling it to other players. And the more you sell, the more you can sell other paintings at a higher rate. The player with the most cash after four rounds wins.

Board Game Geek has unveiled their 2016 Golden Geek Awards, and while many games got to shine, including Mechs vs. Minions (Best Cooperative), Captain Sonar (Most Innovative), and Arkham Horror: The Card Game (Best Card Game), the two big winners were Codenames: Pictures, winning Best Family Game and Best Party Game, and more notably Scythe, dominating this year’s awards by winning Best Thematic, Best Strategy, Best Solo, Best Artwork, and Board Game of the Year!
