The Morning Roll – Day 12 – Kickstarter Edition

| Your Opinion

Good morning gamers,

Chances are you’ve already heard of Exploding Kittens, the Kickstarter sensation that, to date, is the highest funded board game. So, naturally, creator Elan Lee has followed it up with a game where you eat babies! Bears vs. Babies pits you agains other players to build an ultimate bear solider ready to do battle against an army of horrible babies… and it’s great for the whole family too! Bears vs. Babies was funded in minutes and, at the time of writing this, is currently more than 11k% funded, so it will be interesting to see if this gets close to the numbers Exploding Kittens did.

Dann Kriss has spent the better part of three years play-testing and fine-tuning his tableau-building card game Tavern Masters, where you are a tavern owner in a fantasy world of gnomes, witches, warriors, and so on. Now on Kickstarter, the campaign is currently 58% funded with at least another two weeks to go. With three ways to play Tavern Master, do you have what it takes to run a bar in a fantasy world?

Deep Madness is a new co-operative horror game with miniatures from new Dimension Games, who have certainly started out with a bang! In the game, you’re a a rescue team exploring an underwater mining facility locating a team that has lost contact, only to discover the facility is running wild with creatures from another dimension. This complex game comes with different scenarios for 1-6 players, where characters have certain tasks and avoid going mad, monsters have certain effects on their own or combined with other monsters, and even room tiles have effects depending on their status (rooms can even go mad, and can also have water leak effects). It’s a well fleshed-out game that is nearly 500% funded with another three weeks to go.

Ninja Arena is a 3D board game where players are ninjas battling each other in a 3D environment made of wood. You build your ninja from scratch and roll dice to take action against others. The ninja figures are made of tin, a unique take on miniatures that harkens back to old collectable war figurines, which can also be painted. Lots of time on this one, with 13% funded and more than a month to go!

And we briefly highlighted Matt Leacock’s Chariot Race a few weeks back, and that game has now gone live on Kickstarter. It’s a short campaign, but it is already 86% funded!

I’m a little ashamed to admit that I am late to the board gaming bandwagon. I briefly dabbled with RPGs and gave up on video games many moons ago, so board gaming never seemed like an option – until I was introduced to King of Tokyo, my gateway game, and it was all uphill from there! Outside of that, I work in entertainment in the true north, strong and free, and spend my off time embracing fatherhood.
