The Morning Roll – Day 20

| Your Opinion

Good morning gamers,

Renegade Game Studios will be releasing Castles of Caladale in Feb 2017. The tile-building game focuses on castles once destroyed by magic and war, and players rebuild them to be bigger and stronger. The set will come with a double-sided board, more than 80 tiles, and a timer. Designed for up to four players, each game takes roughly thirty minutes to play.

Asmodee will be doing a special release of their 2005 storytelling game Aye, Dark Overlord. First, they are re-releasing the 2005 game as The Red Box. Second, they are releasing a brand new version of the game as The Green Box, which comes with new actions, new hint cards, and new characters to tell a whole new set of stories. Both are standalone games that can be combined to one for up to seven players, where one player plays as the dark overlord judging other player’s stories. Asmodee has a preview of the game.

Cool Mini or Not has announced release date for two upcoming games for 2017. First in January is Gekido: Bot Battles, where you fight other robots for supremacy. Then in June is Kronia, where players make offerings to gods in an attempt to become the leader of their nation.

Portal Games will be offering an expansion for Neroshima Hex 3.0 called Death Breath, which incorporates a zombie virus into the popular hex-and-counter game series. The game is currently available for preorder.

I’m a little ashamed to admit that I am late to the board gaming bandwagon. I briefly dabbled with RPGs and gave up on video games many moons ago, so board gaming never seemed like an option – until I was introduced to King of Tokyo, my gateway game, and it was all uphill from there! Outside of that, I work in entertainment in the true north, strong and free, and spend my off time embracing fatherhood.
