The Morning Roll – Day 17

| Your Opinion

Good morning gamers,

The long-in-development Celtic-themed game Inis is now shipping to retailers. The game was a hit at SPIEL 2016 and is now being made available from Asmodee, who have an extensive preview of the game.

Escape from Colditz is also available at your local retailer from Osprey Games. Originally released in the 70s Parker Bros, the WWII POW survival game has been given a welcomed upgrade to artwork, components and rules. The game also comes with the original rules, which were co-developed by an actual WWII POW survivor.

Of all the board games adapted into film, Clue has remained one of the most likeable adaptations. Now, a theatre troupe in Pennsylvania is adapting Clue as a play, based on the movie. The show is expected to open May 2017 before touring the US and the UK.

Speaking of adaptations, Cryptozoic Entertainment and Hobby World Games are joining forces to release a board game version of the popular PC game Master of Orion. Described as a “competitive tableau-building game”, the game will release in early 2017.

Everything Epic will be bringing us an immersive horror adventure game to Kickstarter in the Spring of 2017. Coma Ward puts players in an abandoned hospital with no memory of who they are, and have to explore the hospital and survive the surroundings to piece together their back story. As their characters come into focus, so do the motivations, and then we discover if the game is competitive or co-operative. This is the first game from designer Danny Lott.

Matt Leacock has been on a roll, his most recent game Chariot Race was quickly funded on Kickstarter. And he is not slowing down. At a recent Reddit Q&A, he announced his new game Mole Rats in Space, a co-operative game for kids that will work as a great introduction to board gaming for kids. The game is expected to be completed next year.

I’m a little ashamed to admit that I am late to the board gaming bandwagon. I briefly dabbled with RPGs and gave up on video games many moons ago, so board gaming never seemed like an option – until I was introduced to King of Tokyo, my gateway game, and it was all uphill from there! Outside of that, I work in entertainment in the true north, strong and free, and spend my off time embracing fatherhood.
