The Morning Roll – Day 21 – Kickstarter Edition

| Your Opinion

Mega Man is back in board game form! The classic video game character will be getting the tabletop treatment via Pixel Tactics, a line of two player combat card games. One of the appeals of the original 8-bit Mega Man games was the rogue gallery of Robot Masters that you can
acquire powers from when defeated; it’s a feature that this tabletop version has replicated, including all 56 characters from the first six original games! And stretch goals are unlocking more bosses! Two boxes of cards, $20 a piece, it’s a good deal hard to pass up!

Speaking of 8-bit games, check out the campaign for Havenfall, a deck building card game that honours classic video game side-scrollers. 2-4 players travel the world of Edonia, battling monsters, collecting weapons or learning spells, eventually making your way to the final boss
and defeat them. As of this writing, the game is 26% funded with ten days to go.

Now’s your chance to battle like a gladiator with Gladiatoris, a tabletop version of Roman amphitheatre combat. The miniatures game pits you as a manager picking and managing a team of gladiators and other fighters to victory. The game is new this week and is currently 25% funded at the time of this writing. If you’re thinking of buying in or waiting, be aware that this is a Kickstarter exclusive game, will not be available in stores after.

Science Fiction fans will get a kick out of Emergence Event: Galaxy Edition. The campaign is for the release of the expansion to the original Emergence Event game, The Awakening. Players control a starship exploring an unknown galaxy, expanding and controlling areas of the galaxy for resources, artifacts and upgrades to their ship. It’s a more strategy by diplomacy game without combat, which can make for an interesting alternative approach to winning. The 3X base game was released last year and has found a bit of a following, and the expansion offers new tiles, ships, cards, and solo rules. Additionally, you may have noticed Kickstarter is offering live video, and this campaign had a live Q&A that’s worth viewing on their page.

And if you’re a fan of the Man vs. Meeple YouTube series, they are doing a Kickstarter to keep their show going, and they are offering
backers exclusive gaming content and promo items. If you haven’t seen Man vs. Meeple yet, they take board gaming shows online to the next level, and it is not to be missed!

And here’s a roundup of other games on Kickstarter now:

I’m a little ashamed to admit that I am late to the board gaming bandwagon. I briefly dabbled with RPGs and gave up on video games many moons ago, so board gaming never seemed like an option – until I was introduced to King of Tokyo, my gateway game, and it was all uphill from there! Outside of that, I work in entertainment in the true north, strong and free, and spend my off time embracing fatherhood.
