I love the anticipation that comes with unboxing a brand new game. It’s like unwrapping a Christmas present. Every single time. Ripping the plastic off, all the unpunched pieces, the game cards, the game boards, meeples, and various other beautiful pieces specific to the game at hand – I get such a rush from this!

Thus, I was beyond excited to receive my Karmaka recently. I was lucky enough to have demoed this at PAX south last year, and was very impressed. I loved the game mechanics, the strategy involved, and the artwork. Let me tell you – the artwork is phenomenally outstanding! It is one of the most beautifully designed games I’ve ever seen. The pictures do not do this game any justice whatsoever.

The gameplay, itself, is also interesting. In a nutshell, you have to use your cards to advance to the next level; however, you must also build up your deck for your next life. You must be thoughtful, though, because the cards you use can be taken by your opponents and subsequently used against you later on.
All in all, Karmaka is a beautifully designed game with solid gameplay. It’s definitely worthy of a spot in your collection.
